Embossing vs. Debossing
\nThere are two versions of this technique: debossing and embossing.
\nDebossing presses the design into the cover, creating a lower area.
\nEmbossing raises the design above the surface.<\/p>\n

For hardcover books<\/a>, only debossing is possible. With softcover books<\/a>, you can choose either embossing or debossing.<\/p>\n

How to Supply Your Print File
\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n

To apply embossing, you will need to provide a separate cover file<\/a> specifically for the embossed design. This file should be the same size as your main cover file. Use a 100% spot color (any PMS color<\/a> will do) to indicate the area to be embossed. Based on this file, we will create a custom metal stamp made uniquely for your book. Your graphic designer will usually know exactly how to set up this file. If not, or if you are working without a designer<\/a>, feel free to check out our tutorial below or simply let us take care of it for you.<\/p>\n
