Foil Stamping

To make your book, catalogue or magazine truly stand out, you can choose to add foil stamping to the cover. This technique is often used to highlight specific words or images, making them extra eye-catching. Applying foil to the cover requires a custom metal stamp. The smaller the stamped area, the lower the cost will be. While it is possible to use foil stamping inside the book as well, this is not commonly done.

What are the options?

With foil stamping, you can choose from a variety of colors. Commonly used options include silver and gold in both glossy and matte finishes. However, other colors are also available. Foil can be applied either on top of or under the laminate. Applying it on top allows for a more distinctive look. For example, using glossy foil on a matte laminate creates a striking contrast and helps the foil retain its shine. The downside is that foil on top is more prone to scratches and damage. When applied under the laminate, the foil takes on the finish of the laminate itself, but it is better protected from wear and tear.

There is no price difference between these foil stamping options.

Foil stamping in your print file

To prepare your design for foil stamping, you will need to supply a separate cover file specifically for the foil layer. This file should be the same size as your regular cover file. Use a 100% spot color (any PMS color will do) to indicate the areas that should be foil stamped.
